Cucumbi Hotel, which stands at Herdade Serra dos Mendes, in Barrancão, is a Local Accommodation that opened its doors in June this year and aims to become a rural hotel.

The new development has three apartments and four suites, decorated by Sofia Albuquerque in a country style. The farm belonged to Catarina Frances’s family and, two years ago, the owner and her husband took over the former “Carnation Red” Cooperative at the beginning of a tourism project, invested in the rehabilitation of the space.

With 118 hectares, the farmhouse features a ceramic atelier, games room, saltwater pool, outdoor lounging areas, a common room with piano and a common kitchen where you can have breakfast – or dinner by invitation owners, who bet on vegetarian dishes with organic products.

“What people like is that they come here, have dinner with us and, by the time, are already talking to the other guests as if they were friends,” explains Catarina Frances, who continues that in this new project: “People help, they teach in a lot of things and it’s being very interesting. ”

Cucumbi is a sustainable project, in which all the water is recycled and reused, the products used are organic and biodegradable and the food is organic, with the intention of being totally produced on the farm. The estate has a variety of crops and trees, greenhouses, sheep and an aviary for a restocking project for four indigenous breeds of endangered chickens.

In addition to providing organic products for the accommodation space, these bets also allow them to hold thematic weeks in which guests can accompany, for example, sheep shearing.
